DVD Optical Drive missing from My Computer

Asus / 6340

Specs: Windows 8, 3.2/10G
My sister has a fairly new (4 months) ASUS CM6340 with an optical drive ASUS DVD GH92N.
Running Windows 8. I have the exact same computer. A few days ago she noticed that her DVD drive was not working. She looked and it does not show up in her My Computer, but does show up in device manager with a yellow exclamation mark.
She has checked for updated drivers (the best driver is being used) and had uninstalled and rebooted from Device manager. It still doesn't show up. Any ideas how to tell the computer it is there?

I tried most of the suggestions with no luck. I did not try the registry one. Life then got in the way and I was too busy to work on the pc.
However, the other day when we opened My Computer ---- there it was! It came back by itself!

I can only surmise that maybe one of the Windows Updates was responsible...for taking it out, and then a later one putting it in!
Thanks to all for the help.
