Hi all,

I have recently bought a HP Pavilion g4-2201tx laptop and would like to reformat the hard disk so as to run both win7 and win8 on it. I have create a set of 6 recovery DVD from the current OS.

Here is the issue, if i install Win 7 following Win 8 (Via recovery disc), isn't it going to erase Win 7? How should i go about doing it?

Here's the hardware specs :

Create Win 8 recovery disks first for safety purposes. Also create a startup repair USB flash disk from within Windows 8 ( 512 MB flash disk is O.K.)

If you have a second partition on the hard disk to install Win 7 on, install it on that partition. Otherwise, create that second partition.

You can use Shrink feature of Win 8 in Disk Management to make space for Win 7. 80-100 GB space should be enough for Win 7.

After formatting the second partition and installing Win 7 ( Win 8 is still on C: drive ), if you cannot boot to Win 8, just do startup repair of Win 8 with the bootable USB flash disk. ( Change boot order to USB disk in BIOS )

You may also try this: From an elevated CMD prompt, enter

Bcdboot x:\Windows

where x is the Windows 8 installation drive letter

One thing to note: If your Windows 8 is installed using UEFI, then you may have to install Windows 7 using UEFI, too. Check your computer documentation first.

Hope this helps.
