when I burn data to a dvd , I always get - waiting to burn desktop.ini as well. What is this and how do I permanently get rid of it ? My pc is brand new, and my friend gets the same thing on his pc.
why are we not getting email notifications anymore after the upgrade ?
They can appear anywhere as they hold information on how a particular folder is displayed. They aren't normally visible unless you have the system set to display system files, (which isn't a good idea), but when you copy a folder the system always asks if you want to copy the desktop.ini file as well and it does no harm whether you do or not, Windows will rebuild it at the first opportunity. So you cannot permanently get rid of them, and you should only be aware of them in file copying situations so just ignore them is the best advice - they do no harm but are an essential for Windows' day-today running.
