Solved Connecting ZTE Modem Model MF626 to VirtualBox Win8 Trial

July 16, 2012 at 17:04:58
Specs: Windows 7/Dual XP, ?/3gig
I have downloaded and installed Windows 8 Trial to VirtualBox and all my USB devices work as they should except for my ZTE Wireless Modem MF626.

On a previous installation some years ago on XP the guest installation found the modem automatically when the Internet was connected on the Host.

In this instance though when the modem is connected on my Windows 7 Host the moment I engage the appropriate USB device on the Guest installation it disconnects the modem on the Host and the modem will no longer initialise or connect.

I am unable therefore to validate my Win 8 installation or make use of the Internet.

Any and all help will be very much appreciated.

Why don't you let the host OS use the modem and then let the virtual nic connect that way?

There is no need to attach and detach usb devices like that. Sometimes maybe usb flash drives and cd drives but never usually do you need to fool with a modem.

Might need to do this. Use the Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop adapter in Network settings for the VM. Windows 8 M3 will auto-detect and configure it. See my blog post about the same topic: http://phpraxis.wordpress.com/2011/...
