Solved Combine two partitions on one drive in Windows 8.1

Gigabyte / Ga-78lmt-s2p

Specs: Win 8.1, 8gig
My drive has two partitions, one is 149 gig and contains Windows 8.1 and the other is 84 gig and is blank. Is it possible to delete the blank partition and the combine the two without any loss of information, or damage to the existing system?

Regards

✔ Best Answer
Open Disk Management (as described in the link below), right-click on the unwanted partition (make sure you choose the right one!) and select "Delete Volume". Then follow the procedure in the link to expand your Windows partition.

But... perhaps ensure you have safely copied any critical (personal) files etc. (on the first partition) to external storage; typically dvd but another external hard drive too is nice(r).... Just incase something goes amiss with your partition merging exercise, which renders it impossible to access them (or the actual OS installation itself)...

Safety first...?

Yes, sorry. I should have said that. Always backup anything important before carrying out this sort of operation. 99 times out of 100 there will be no problem. But what are you going to do that 100th time?

Thanks ijack (got it right this time)... what I'll do first is make an image of the partition first.

yes, you can delete the blank partition, but you should backup your important data in this partiton. open disk management to delete partition, then use extend volume feature to extend your small partition. Another way is, you can choose a third software, aomei partition assistant to help you merge your adjacent partition or resize partition to extend partition. Or another partition manager, search in google to find some software reviews, you will find many kinds.
