Can't see my main screen display. Too wide for the monitor.

Specs: Windows 8
windows 8, how to resize my main page display which is off the screen. Changing the display resolution doesn't work. This happened once before and a tech helped me get into a screen which had slide bars to adjust the vertical and horizontal size of my mane display but I don't remember how to get into that. This only happens on the main display before I open any windows.

"my main page display"

Do you mean the Start Screen with the blocks on it, the desktop, or something else?

Maybe you mean this:

It's a PC. Lenovo ideacenter K4 .. Don't know a model number. Bought it new last year and had the same problem when first hooked up to the monitor. Somehow a tech helped by using some display adjustments which adjusted the display screen.

Are there any controls on the monitor itself?

No and the Insignia people tell me the problem lies with the computer. The monitor is supplied with a HDMI cable.

Sorry but I've been unable to unearth anything that changes the size of just the desktop. There only seem to be fixes for changing the size of all screens.

Keep an eye on here in case someone comes along who know the way forward on this.
