can't playback in stereo

Specs: Windows 8
We use split track downloads at church. I down load them at home on my desktop, (hp with windows 8) transfer them to a thumb drive, and play them at church on a laptop.(HP with windows 8 purchased 10/2012) The laptop was struck by lightning. Bought a new Toshiba with windows 8. It plays back in mono. It still is split on my desktop, but in not on the new laptop. Tried another laptop, (HP with windows 7), same result.

You may need a DAC. How are you connecting the laptop to the sound system at the church & describe the system.

How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

If you have tried two different laptops and both of them sound like mono, I would suspect the audio system itself might be to blame. Can you connect an mp3 player or iPod device to the audio plug you use for the laptops. If it plays in mono, look at the audio system for the problem. If you're using a multi channel mixer, make sure the channels are panned left and right. If you're using something like a home receiver, make sure you don't have the mono button pressed.
