Hi to all,

Sorry for bothering you again with this issue. As I belong rather to the persister type, I'd like to get a solution to this technical issue, as HP has kindly sent me back to Microsoft ...

I am pretty sure the issue is coming from the BIOS installed by HP (not Microsoft !) on my ENVY dv7 laptop.

I got from an HP users' forum a very concise suggestion advising me to install the new BIOS F23 ... does this ring a bell to any of you ? and what is this F23 BIOS ?

Thanks in advance for your kind clarifications - Claude

Microsoft has nothing to do with the BIOS. Go to the HP site, find the latest available BIOS download, read the description about what it "fixes" & see if it applies to your problem. An improperly performed BIOS flash will turn your laptop into an expensive doorstop so don't do it unless it's absolutely necessary.

BTW, dv7 is the generic model number of the series. You'll need the complete model number - dv7-????

The following may or may not be the correct BIOS for your model. Here's what it fixes:

Fixes an issue where the System Diagnostic tool does not display the correct battery information. - Fixes an intermittent issue where upgrading the BIOS to a newer version causes the system to power on and off continuously.

It would have been better to continue on your original thread (or at least have included a link to it). That way you avoid getting the fixes that didn't work repeated all over again.

For others it was this post:

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
