Can you be a little more specific - what make/model is your computer; and is the info you give above the model number for your Seagate drive?

How are you attempting to install 8.1? Do you already have 8.0 installed?

I dun a wee trawl via Google and while Seagate don't appear to have specific win-8 drivers - there do appear to be others "out there (Skully)" who offer them…?

Not entirely sure I'm OK with some of the "sources" as often they seem to require a registration and assorted info; and possibly will dump assorted stuff in alongside the drivers package… (to say nothing of being spammed etc if/when an email address is passed/sold on)?

But perhaps do a trawl your self and see what etc.?

* Is this a fresh install of Win8 on an empty drive , or a migration/upgrade?

* What does the error message say exactly?

* Did this drive previously work ok on another operating system?
If so,Can you maybe pull it out, reformat it on another PC, then try again.

Though my experience is limited in comparison to some of the guys helping out here, I've not come across any HDD that required specific drivers - whether it be an internal or external drive.

Echoing Peet here… Not aware that any HD requires a "specific" driver ; was under the impression that there are generic drivers for a given style/type of SATA - there being several of course...
