I would remove any Anti virus product you have installed or tried to install. Panda removal utility was posted above, AVG and Avast both have removal utilities on their website. After they are uninstalled it is likely you will have to reboot the computer which you should. Then I would download malwarebytes and let it run a scan and remove anything it finds, restart may also be required. Then, I would download Avast as recommended above also and do the boot time scan. It's unclear to me whether you are having troubles installing because of: not uninstalling the previous anti virus, or a virus which is corrupting the installation, which is why I suggest the above order.

Download OTL, save & run from your Desktop.
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe
Double click the OTL icon to start the tool. (Note: If you are running on Vista or Windows 7 accept UAC alert)
1: When the window appears, underneath Output at the top, make sure Standard output is selected.
2: Select Scan all users
3: Change Drivers to All
4: Under the Extra Registry section, check Use SafeList
5: In the lower right corner, checkmark "LOP Check" and checkmark "Purity Check".
6: Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.

When the scan is complete, two text files will be created on your Desktop
OTL.Txt <- this one will be opened
Extras.txt <- this one will be minimized

Upload the logs using this. I upload to Imgur.com for images & load.to for files ( neither need an account ) Give us the links please.

OTL will provide me with information that may pinpoint what is stopping the AVG install.

Why do want to install AVG, the AV that comes with Windows 8, is all you need.

Windows 8 comes with built-in antivirus called Windows Defender. Most PC companies (Acer, Dell, HP, etc) disable it. All you need to do enable it again. I think that's what Johnw was getting at.

avast free will be your best choice in AV as you said that you NEVER tried to get AVG.
Download Avast Free from this link, click on the green on the right to get the latest version:
http://filehippo.com/download_avast...
Install it and allow it to do a bootscan on reboot....all that it finds, just click on send to the chest.

As you said you never had AVG then it might be a fake. This could also be the reason why you are having trouble installing Avast - malware often prevents installation of software that might find it.

If you provide the information requested at #1 we should be able to find the reason for your issues then go from there.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
