Solved Auto Dimming windows 8.1

Specs: Windows 8.1, i7
I have already gone through the steps to disable the auto dimming, however windows still auto dims everything and it is really starting to piss me off. IE comes in bright, but when I switch to photoshop, or Rhino, or any other development software windows decides that the screen is too bright and dims down.

This may pinpoint what is going on in your comp.

Download OTL, save & run from your Desktop. If your default download location is not the Desktop, drag it out of it's location onto the Desktop.
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe
Double click the OTL icon to start the tool. (Note: If you are running on Vista or Windows 7 accept UAC alert)
1: When the window appears, underneath Output at the top, make sure Standard output is selected.
2: Select Scan all users
3: Change Drivers to All
4: Under the Extra Registry section, check Use SafeList
5: In the lower right corner, checkmark "LOP Check" and checkmark "Purity Check".
6: Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.

When the scan is complete, two text files will be created on your Desktop
OTL.Txt <- this one will be opened
Extras.txt <- this one will be minimized

Upload the logs using this. I upload to Imgur.com for images & load.to for files ( neither need an account ) Give us the links please.

It may be due to the adaptive brightness feature, if John's suggestions don't work, try this -

All of these things have been done, but my windows keeps shutting off my display, after a certain amount of time. I have NO screen saver I have all display dimming/shutoff/ options disabled.
my power button is set to DO nothing when pressed,
my lid is set to do nothing when closed.
everything in power options have been disabled.

Its like my system is taking control of itself and making decisions on its own. I DO NOT approve of that.

I appreciate the answers. But this is something that windows is doing on its own in the background, and I can not seem to find any where to disable everything that's offending me.

There are lots of other people having the same issue, how ever none have said anything about a concrete solution.

I have a g75vx laptop, with an NVidia 670mx gpu, 16gig memory, 120gig ssd primary and a 1tb secondary, I use it plugged in 95% of the time. I use photoshop, maya, 3ds max, Rhino 3d, and various development softwares. This dimming display is more bothersome then anything I have ever had to deal with. The blaster virus was a better option for windows then this dimming display crud.

it started after the windows 8.1 update/upgrade, as soon as it started I found info online to shut off the dimming feature. and so it worked, now it started doing it again. Its frustrating because I have all those features shut off, and yet its still happening.

I am working on that OTL thing. trying to find my sharing website.

You will see in your Extras log a section called >
========== Last 20 Event Log Errors ==========

Two problems are happening, one is with Warcraft & the other is with Avast.

Both may need to be uninstalled.

Start with uninstalling Avast & test.
Avast! Uninstall Utility
http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

If Avast turns out to be the culprit ( it may also be a combination of both )
I use Microsoft Security Essentials ( MSE )

If you choose to use Security Essentials, please follow the steps in this thread first, especially the part about removing all existing realtime antimalware:

For uninstalling Warcraft, use IObit Uninstaller

http://www.iobit.com/advanceduninst...
Do a Standard Uninstall & then the Powerfull Scan to remove all the lurking bits.

"Warcraft is my computer name"
Opp's, sorry about that, I knew that it is also a game.

We are looking for a needle in a haystack, I have no idea where the problem may lie. You can see all the errors in the log, process of elimination. Start wherever you like.
Like the first error, tells you to use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

I went for Avast, because it is in the list & AV's are a very common cause of problems.

Put the word ERROR into search on those logs & you will find other problems.

Of course, none of error's in the log, may be responsible for your problem.

The logs did not reveal any malware.

I'm here, you are probably 12 hours behind me.

Still have the problem.
It is really noticeable when viewing web pages. dark webpages dim then viewing white web pages it gets brighter.
Also, when switching from a bright website to a dark colored application the screen dims. I hate it with a passion for blood.

Difficult when symptoms are intermittent. There are also hardware possibilities too, such as graphics module or the screen itself.

as much as I want to, I can not do that right now. I don't have the free drive space to back up everything right now so a repair is not an option.

"I don't have the free drive space"

Run Wise Disk Cleaner ( Run the 1st three tabs, left to right. I use default settings, leave boxes that are unchecked, unchecked ) Reboot when finished.

let me rephrase, I have a 120gig primary ssd, windows is using
300mb EFI
900mb Recovery
350mb Recovery
20gig Recovery
90gig NTFS (C: Drive)

I don't have anything installed on the c Drive, however fricken windows insists on installing developer apps on there even when I directly tell them NO.

I don't trust windows to not screw things up, I have 613 gigs of apps and files on my secondary HDD, in order to do what I want to do, which is a clean install of windows to the whole system. I need to have a back up drive of at least 2 tb, that I can back up my things too.

By the way, that Wise Disk cleaner..... freed up 2 gigs on my primary and 90mb on my secondary....
