Specs: Windows 8 Pro 32 bit, 4 GB
Hello Everyone!
I recently bought Windows 8 Pro. When I was on Windows 7, I had downloaded the WIN8 Upgrade Assistant and it had said that I would need to re-install
AMD Catalyst Install Manager, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Version 3.0.855.0

I cannot find this version of the install manager. I tried going to the Acer Drivers website and it had drivers for only the 64 bit Win8. Still, I tried downloading the Graphic Card driver from there. I then ran the setup and the setup completed successfully. However, I still cannot find my Switchable Graphics option and neither my Catalyst Control Center. I then downloaded the 32 bit Win8 installer from the AMD website for my graphic card. The setup ran again, completed successfully but still there is no CCC and Switchable Graphics. Please Help! I don't want to play games on the Intel HD 3000.

Laptop Specs:
Windows 8 Professional
2.27 Ghz
4 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
Intel HD 3000 Graphics
1 GB ATI HD 5650 Graphics (This is the graphic card which is not installing)

Thank you for all your help!

"I tried going to the Acer Drivers website and it had drivers for only the 64 bit Win8"

That would be very unusual indeed - I've never known a company release only 64-bit drivers for a particular Windows version - but I can't check since you didn't post your laptop's model number. I suggest you go back to Acer support and check again.

Try using the link below. Acer doesn't seem to be supporting Windows 8 on that laptop yet.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownlo...

BTW, this is what happens when you need to be the first. What was wrong with Windows 7?

acer DOES support windows 8 for that laptop... and who doesn't like a new operating system on the laptop. and i think microsoft did not design win8 in a way that an ati graphic card won't install. so yeah... and the file that i donwloaded from your link said that this hardware is not supported and contact your laptop manufacture to update ur graphics card... and i am in india.... and the services for acer in india... are hopeless. so yeah... this is the second place i could come to.

Below is a direct link to an Acer download site. If you connect you will see when selecting the OS that there is no option for Windows 8.

There is no advantage to installing Windows 8 on your computer.

My guess is there will eventually be drivers for Windows 8 posted there.

Some companies only provide 64-bit drivers for Windows 8. I do not know why, but that is a fact. If Acer had the 64-bit Windows 7 on it, then 64-bit Windows 8 installation would be meaningful.

I have an Asus Xonar D1 sound card that was introduces in 2008. If you visit Asus support for this card, only 64-bit Windows 8 drivers ( beta currently ) are provided. No 32-bit drivers.

If you have an older gfx card on your machine, older than AMD 5xxx series, no drivers are provided for Windows 8. But you can try to install Windows 7 drivers that are suitable for your gfx card. Drivers for older cards ended in CCC 12.06. Windows 8 drivers started with CCC 12.10. Therefore, you can download CCC 12.06 for your gfx card for Windows 7 and try to install them. You may not have any luck, though.

EDIT: AMD CCC for older hardware on Windows 8
