Solved Annoying touchpad behavior in Windows 8.1

Specs: Windows 8.1, Intel Core i5 2.5GHz/6GB
When I use the touch pad on my laptop, sometimes my finger gets a little too close to the right edge of the pad, which causes the Windows 8 "charms" to show up, taking the focus away from the program I'm working in. (I almost exclusively use the desktop.) How can I disable this annoying behavior from the touchpad so I only get the charms when I actually point the cursor to the upper-right corner?

I don't think I noticed this behavior until relatively recently...

I am using a Synaptics ClickPad V8.1.

Any suggestions for how to disable this annoyance would be greatly appreciated!

thanks,
Todd

Hi Derek, I looked at the link you mentioned... I don't really want to get rid of the charms bar entirely, I just want my touchpad to stop opening it when my cursor is nowhere near the upper-right corner!

I looked at the link to "[Fix] Charms Bar Randomly Appears on Windows 8/8.1 Touch Enabled Devices", but unfortunately, my Synaptics mouse doesn't appear to have a setting for "right edge swipe"...

There was a driver update at the end of May - I'm tempted to roll it back to see if that helps...

thanks,
Todd

If it was the way you liked it before the driver update then it's worth trying the roll back.

There was an update to the Synaptics TouchPad on April 23, 2015 (19.0.5.0). Don't know exactly when I downloaded it. But the Roll Back Driver button is greyed out! And I checked my System Restore points only to find that for some reason I only have 3 in there and the earliest is from the end of May! So I can't restore to the prior version, either...

Argh!

I found the version number of the prior version and searched for it on my laptop manufacturer's web site. After reinstalling, the TouchPad works like it used to! Win!
