Zip folder is downloading Incorrectly as PDF file

January 10, 2012 at 10:11:12
Specs: Windows 7
I am sent a link from someone else to download a Zip folder and when it is completely downloaded it is not a ZIP folder, it is a PDF File. I think someone messed with my setting in my computer somehow and changed the Open With Program to Adobe Reader. How Do I get it back to where thefle downloads as a ZIP Folder?

If the downloaded file has a filename ending with the letters .pdf, it probably is a pdf file. Nothing wrong with your PC. You were probably sent the wrong link.

Have you tried creating your own zip folder?
On the desktop, click New > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
The folder icon should have a zip running down it.
Try to open that folder.

If the icon has a zip on it, and it opens as a folder in a new window, there is nothing wrong with your settings for zip folders.

Before the same links would be a zipped folder with files in it. Now I am getting an icon that has a white page with the Adobe symbol on it. That also happens when I create a new compressed zipped folder. Whenever I double click on it there is no folder that opens up, What happens is a Adobe Reader window opens .

Right click on the downloaded file. Properties, then change to zip or 7zip if you have it.

A thank you would be nice, if I have helped.

Either file is a pdf or it is a zip. If it is reported wrong then fix association.

A pdf file can still be zipped. While zipped the file extension will be zip regardless of what is inside the zip container.
