Specs: Windows XP, 1.862 GHz / 2037 MB
I´m Doing a clean Install on my laptop of Win7 from previus Win-XP.
Now I have Win XP and I want to save all my MSN and yahoo data...contact-info and chat-history-log files.

Especially the MSN chat history files from my few msn accounts.

I've few MSN accounts as well as few Yahoo contacts on my computer.
Before I Install Win 7, how do I take a backup of this data ?
After I do a clean Install of Win 7 on my computer, how do I restore my data in Win 7 ?
Is there already some Back-up utility software awalable to do this ?
I know there are few folders that can be copied but I also saw that you may need to edit some registry files....
Thanks.

How are you accessing these files? Are you viewing them in a Web Browser?

No just on my computer before I do the installation.
here is a better description on what I´m asking for..

--------------------------------
I´m about to do a clean Install on my laptop with Win7 from my previous Win-XP.

Now I have Win XP and I want to save all my MSN messenger data...contact-info and chat-history-log files.

I've few MSN accounts on my computer.
Before I Install Win 7, how do I take a backup of this data ?
(I know how to copy and move files to DVD´s, external drives or other backup solutions)

After I do a clean Install of Win 7 on my computer, how do I restore my messenger data in Win 7 ?
Is there already some special messenger Back-up utility software awalable to do this ?

Somehow I think it is not just about copying these directories between the old and new system...maybe some diffident directory structure or something in Win7. In WinXP it is => My Documents\My Received Files/....... where would that go in Win7 and what changes need to be done to make it all work so I can have all my chat history from many years on my new Win7 system ?

I know there are few folders that can be copied but I also saw that you may need to edit some registry files....or something...you tell me.

Thanks.

Firstly will you machine run Windows 7 with no hardware/driver issues ?

http://windows.microsoft.com/upgrad...

Secondly Windows 7 has Easy Transfer feature:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/...

Googling is quicker than waiting for an answer....

Ok...do not worry about how I install Win7 I have already checked that all out...and the question is NOT about how to install Win7...please read again.

I´m putting a new 500Gb hard disk drive in my Laptop and installing Win7 from a USB key.
When I have installed Win7 I will install MSN messenger (newest version) and from there on I need help to see if messenger will show me the chat history from all my contacts.

I will have the old hard disk drive(160Gb) that I took from the computer in a external housing so I can easily access all files trough USB.

SO I should be able to move the history files from this directory in the old XP: My Documents\My Received Files/....... to the new Win7

So just tell me where to put these files in Win7 and what to do or what to change...so the new messenger program on my Win7 can work and read the chat files.

Of course I have Googled...what do you think I am ??????

I´m asking here if somebody has experience with this problem and has solved it for himself and can tell me what he did in his case...of course only if it worked for that person.

Thanks.

XpUser4Real: I´we not read all his posts so how could I know that bottom line in his message was "just a signature" and "just for fun" as he says in his reply to me here ?

So witch result of these 600.000 are you referring to on the Google result page, can you be more specific, please.

Jolicloud: Before I decided to put Win7 on my machine I checked if my machine could run it, I have already figured that out with no problems for example with recomandations from microsoft and by using there software to check my computer........but my question was not about that.

I already knew about the Easy transfer before I started this tread. I just wanted to know if someone has a personal experience in moving chat history from XP to Win7.

So guys have you personal experience in moving your messenger chat history from a XP machine to a new Win7 machine ? Did it all worked out well ?

Thanks to both of you guys.

P.S. why do you say HTF...what does it exactly stand for ?
