Specs: Windows 7
Write Protect error
this may or may not solve this specific problem, but if the info i'm about to give had been in this thread, it would have saved me hours.. good luck

I didn't have to reboot or anything and it worked for me.

get an administrator CMD prompt

type "diskpart"

type "list volume"

type "select volume x" where x is the locked drive

type "attributes disk" - see if readonly

if true, type "attributes disk clear readonly"

type "attributes volume" - see if readonly

if true, type "attributes volume clear readonly"

If you were installing a new operating system on a disk that had been previously used but you did not need to save any data on it then I would have just deleted all partitions and then created a new partition from the unallocated space and formatted it. This should have wiped off any attributes and allowed you to start from scratch with a clean install.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
