Word wants a Java update in order to open after a restore;

May 5, 2017 at 07:05:49
Specs: Windows 7
After a restore, word will not open; Java needs updating. Do I do a total download since there are not updates for Windows 7? I've done update before that never affected word or excel. T hanks

Was this a factory restore?

I'm surprised that Word needs Java, what Office version is it?

If it really needs it then yes, download it from here:
https://java.com/en/download/
[Always best to Save as a file then double click the file to install it. That way if anything goes wrong you know whether it was a problem with the download or the install. It also keeps the browser out of the equation. You can delete the downloaded file later if you wish]

Java can be a security risk online. If you don't generally use Java (few do) then you can disable it in your browsers afterwards. Go to "Control Panel > Java > Security tab". Uncheck "Enable Java content in the browser". If you are unsure disable it anyway - you can soon enable it if necessary.

Note that it is only Windows updates that have stopped. Others such as Java will continue as normal.
NOT YET - MY MISTAKE. ALL THAT HAS HAPPENED SO FAR IS THAT YOU CAN NO LONGER GET MS SUPPORT OR FEATURE UPDATES.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Did you run Windows Update after the restore? If not, you need to.

Yes, Windows Update will still work to get you back to the state before MS pulled them. It's just that you will get no more new ones. MY MISTAKE, SECURITY UPDATES WILL BE AROUND UNTIL JANUARY 2020.

Derek, I am confused. Why will Windows 7 not update with new files?

I don't use Win 7. Seems I got the wrong end of the stick somewhere along the way. Security Updates will run to the end of extended support. I'll edit my responses. Thx for putting me straight.
