Specs: Windows 7
Hi up until a month ago playing & burning CD/DVD has never been a problem. First i couldn't burn music, video and data but now my laptop won't play a DVD . It sounds like its reading the disc but nothing shows . i can still play CD's.Checked drivers - up to date. cannot do a system restore to point before having any problems, as it says there are none . Created restore point but was no good ;could only create at that time not before any problem. I have used a free registry cleaner and do have codec(s), according to laptop .Ran several maintenance checks/tasks eerything appears fine.Tried two other players (real and VLC) , on vlc said there was an error but to refer to log which i could not find . My technical knowledge is pants but i can follow simple instructions (ha ha)any advice would be much appreciated.

It is not a good idea to post your email address on public forums. You can end up on spam lists. I've removed it for your safety.

It sounds like your drive is going out. New drives are dirt cheap these days, I would try replacing it.

Ok thanks. Would that not show up as device not working properly or anything?!
No idea how to change drive.. . . may just be time for a new laptop .

Thanks for feedback

It's probably the laser going bad in which case it won't show up as being bad in Device Manager or anything like that.

You could always get an external burner that connects through a USB port. Much cheaper than a new laptop.
