Windows very slow, often goes wrong

July 20, 2011 at 11:58:35
Specs: Windows 7
I returned from holiday to find my computer stuck in startup mode - it is a Windows 7 Dell Pc with 6gb RAM.

Even in safe mode it was slow, but I ran Checkdisk and then Malwarebytes. It found a Trojan. I can now get into Windows but it is still very slow, and locks up very quickly. It is better in safe mode. Sometimes I can't even do Control Alt-Delete. I tried to do a clean boot using msconfig.exe but msconfig.exe is blank when I go to open it. Sometimes programmes such as word take 10 minutes to open.

Any ideas what is wrong? I thought hard disk failure but in safe mode, for half an hour say, it works fine. Then all gums up.

do a disk check.
if thats ok, considering you had at least 1 trojan, i might just save my files and run a reimage from one i made earlier, or a factory restore. a reimage or factory restore will wipe the C; drive and install your system to the day you bought it, or made the image.
that would certainly counter any software/virus/trojan issues.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

You also might try first a system restore to a date WAY before you began having this problem, then rescan with malwarebytes just to be sure. If this does not work, then your best bet is as in response #1 above and backup and reinstall or use factory restore feature.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Registry fixing programs rarely fix real errors and usually create more problem than they fix. This smells like an advertisement with a sprinkling of misspellings to make it sound legit. Like all of these quick fix-alls, they should ALL be avoided, who knows which ones are really nasty and will introduce all kinds of junk to your system.
