Hi,

You can try running the Microsoft Fix It from the below mentioned URL and can even refer to the troubleshooting mentioned on this URL:

Hope this helps

I would suggest running with response #3 would be your best first bet.

My #2 is rather more general so leave it on the back burner for now.

Just to add that the program at the link I gave in #2 is free.

I can't however vouch for it personally.

Try Derek's post #2, if that dos'nt work.

1: Go to Administrative Tools/Services, and stop the Windows Update service.
Or,
1a: Go to Start, type > services.msc in the search box and hit > Enter.

2: Then go to the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and delete ALL of the files and folders.

3: Then go back to Services and restart the Windows Update service which will recreate ALL of those folders again.

4: Then manually run the Update Service and everything should work. If you don't know how to manually start updates, reboot & Auto Updates should kick in.

I tried Derek's post #2 and thought it was going to download ok but then stopped because I didn't have enough space on hard drive.

Oh, are you short of space on the HD then? If so that might have some bearing on your issues.

Subject to the above, try #7.

Well, assuming C is your system drive it does look very tight. 2GB is enough for updates but if there is a lot of background activity going on at the same time (including paging) it could use it up. There are facilities in Windows 7 to move folders such as Pictures and Videos onto another drive and make more space.

Might be an idea to temporarily disable automatic updates. Then go to Windows Update and select just one small update manually and see if that downoads and installs. If it does, try a large one.

I tried Derek's #14 and moved folders from C to D and managed to get alittle over 5 gb free space but still can't get windows updates to work or the have enough room for the PC scan & repair to work. So I really have no best answer I'm sure I am doing something wrong just another granny out of her capability. Many Thanks for trying!
