Windows Updates for programs I don't have.

Specs: Windows 7 Professional, Intel Core i3 @ 2.1 GHz / 4 GB RAM
I periodically check my Windows Update to see what updates are ready to be installed, and there are 10 updates for Office 2007. The thing is, I don't have any version of Office 2007 installed on my computer, nor did I at anytime previously. I have Office Home and Student 2010, and Office FrontPage 2003, but that's it. My question is, do I need to install the Office 2007 Updates?

Possibly, you computer came with a preinstalled 30 days trial version of Ofiice 2007.
If you never uninstalled that version, Windows Update shows security fixes for it, to install.
Therefor, check the installed programs in Control Panel / Programs and Functions.

My computer had an Office 2010 pre-install, not 2007.

Could be compatibility files for files created in Office 2007?

If you actually allow the installation you can always remove later. You can also elect to never show that update again in options. Usually you can determine what the purpose of the update is by left clicking on it while in the update screen.

Have you any of the MS office file viewers onboard?
Reason I ask is that these use Office updates.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

One more thing I should say: I have Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and 2010 Express packages installed on my computer. I don't know if these have components for making programs for Office 2007, so could this be part of the issue?

@Derek: No office file viewers installed.

@OtheHill: I looked in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office, and there is no "Office12" folder present. There also is no "Compatibility Pack for the Office 2007 System" installed.

The only Office programs listed in Programs and Features are:

Microsoft Office 2010
Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003
Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010

I know that this isn't a critical thing that must be fixed, but I don't know why Windows Update thinks Office 2007 is installed!

I don't know the answer to your question but from time to time I have seen MS automatic updates (all sorts) offered, which when downloaded are then rejected as unsuitable and not installed. The reasons for rejection are often shown in "Events".

If you are unable to resolve this issue you could cross your fingers, install the updates and hope that MS will then make the right decision about whether to install them or not.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
