windows update taking too long to install

Specs: Windows 7
I am trying to update my Windows 7 on my lap top but it continues to say (0 KB, 0% complete). There hasn't been any progress and I have over 70 updates for this computer. Why is it taking so long? Why hasn't any updates been installed? Its just taking forever!

Some of the updates can take a very long time to install. With 70 updates you could be looking at an hour or more. You'll see the progress bar move as they initialize.

If you have a hard wired network available and your laptop has a RJ45 network port, try connecting it that way. If your updates are not fully downloaded yet, this will be a faster way, especially if you are downloading SP1 which is a rather large file if you are behind on your updates. As an alternative you can cancel and do a manual Windows update and select some of the updates to do at a single time, and repeat this as time allows. This also has the benefit of pinpointing any single update that is hanging.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
