Windows Update in Windows 7 keeps marking the IE9 and Windows Live Messenger 2011 installers as important and keeps trying to download and install them, but I do not want either update. Is there a way to set them as optional (as they OBVIOUSLY are NOT important updates), or remove them from the update list?

That is if I remember correctly an option if you run a manual Windows Update. Start>All Programs>Windows Update. I did this often in XP, and I believe I did the same for all 'Live' stuff in W7 and that is what I remember going through.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Yes, there is a way. You need to mark not to show that update again. That option should be on the update screen somewhere.

I do the same thing. Only difference is that I don't use auto updates. I go to Windows update and let it scan, then choose what to install.
