Uninstall any 3rd party smartphone apps from the host PC and reset your smartphone.

That's what I did and it solved the error.

I removed the Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center and restated both the PC and my phone. I tried to download the program to reinstall, however the only one I could find, - drvupdate-x86.exe - returns the error "This installation package is not supported by this processor type. Contact your product vendor." However, there is no information anywhere that I can find. I am unable to restore from any of my restore points, which I set religiously. I am beginning to suspect that, as usual, the Windows updates have screwed everything up. Sigh. Help?
