windows delete of file in nas share take so long

Specs: Windows 7
We are experiencing very long processing times to delete files and or folders from a NAS CIFS share. It appears depending on the File Systems size and number of folders and # of files affects the amount of time it takes to gather the info in windows. If you do a properties on a folder, it takes up to 30 minutes to get the folder and file count. These are not huge file systems. the amount of time it takes windows to calculate the # of files and folders is dependent on where in the path you are processing. higher up the folder takes way longer than the last folder in the path. I can't believe that with windows and NAS working together for so long that there is not a fix for this. Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated

What type of NAS are we talking about? There's everything from the little 2 bay NAS I have at home to the million dollar NAS in my server room here at work which takes up 4 entire server racks.

How long have you had this NAS and how long have you been experiencing this issue? If you've been experiencing this issue as long as you've had the NAS, then I'd be talking to the NAS people and make them fix it.

How do servers connect to the NAS? Network cable? Fiber Channel? iSCSI?

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
