Specs: Windows XP, 3.2ghz
Hi,

I have bought Windows 7 Ultimate x64
(upgrade version).

I have Windows Xp Professional x32.

I am having trouble installing Windows 7. It
simply doesn't load up because the installation
disk is not x32.

But I know my computer is compatible with
Windows 7 x64.

Can anyone help?

I've tried booting from CD drive with Windows 7
cd loaded but no luck.

Thank you.

first run the win 7 compatability,
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/co...
if the results are good then should be ok,however you will need XP sp3 to upgrade

you could also download a 32 bit version, your x64 upgrade key will work...

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

I've already run the upgrade advisor. My computer is suitable.

Where can I download the 32bit version?

You can go directly to windows 7 64bit. You need to know that to go from XP to 7 (same for Vista 32bit to 7 64bit) you need to do a clean install.
First, Backup anything you want to save to another drive or partition.
Second, make sure your DVD drive is set to first in boot order.
Third, put in DVD and restart.
Fourth, when your computer boots to the install disk, choose CUSTOM and FORMAT the drive that your XP was on (I prefer full format over quick format).
Then, just follow prompts.
Oh yeah, I prefer to download all drivers I might need for current hardware (windows 7 versions) and any programs I might want to install that I do not have disks for and load them on a flash drive before actually starting.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I bought a 7 ultimate key on-line and the person that sold it to me had 2 links in my e-mail for downloading either the 32 0r 64 bit version. I tried copying the link for you but it just shows page not found, whereas when I click on the link in my e-mail it automatically asks me to save whichever one I choose...go figure LOL

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
