Windows 7 wont open any Folders in Explorer

Specs: Windows 7, 2.998 GHz / 2047 MB
Turned on my computer today and tried to go into a random folder. When I do so I get the error message "the file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel". I have tried looking in the default program list but there is no option to select explorer which I suspect the problem is due to. If I right click and hit open on the folder, it will open and then any files within that folder such as .jpeg or .mp3 etc will open by double clicking.

I remember having this problem years ago with Windows 98 or something but it fixed itself are a restart. I cant seem to fix this. Any ideas ? I am using Windows 7 Ultimate

System restore to an earlier date would be easiest but you may have to go to (I have used some of these files before with no problems) and find the right file for you i think its going to be the folder association fix. Good Luck.

Ok so I installed the reg file as suggested and now the folders on my desktop are opening but any folders other that that, inlcuding my hard drive icons in "my computer" or when I open windows explorer and the "libraries" no folders will open unless they are right clicked. I am also getting explorer.exe using 100% of my CPU capacity ??
