Normal documents of word are DOC files.
The new documents of Word 2007 are DOCX files.
Your Office 2007 should open DOC files without any problem.

In addition, if you'd like to have the old DOC files in DOCX format, open the old files and use save as in Office 2007, to save the files in the new DOCX format.

Ok, just to clear up things.
What happens, if you simply doubleclick one of the old DOC files?

What should happen is, Office 2007 (Word) should open with the old word document.

If not, post the exact error message.

Right click on the file, select 'open with' and select Word and put a check in the box that asks you if you would like to use this program for this type of file.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
