Solved Windows 7 wakes automatically from sleep mode

May 25, 2011 at 13:37:15
Specs: Windows 7

It had happened several times already. My desktop just randomly starts from hibernation in the middle of the night. It happens every 1-2 months, every time during night time. I have wake by ring and other options turned off in the BIOS. My router doesnt have WOL enabled.

Is there a solution to this? ghost in machine?

This sounds like the computer still powers USB devices whilst still in hibernation (mouse of keyboard probably detects small random change) - there is probably an option in the BIOS that can prevent USB devices waking the computer

Other than that - if the computer is in Hibernation you are probably safe to turn off the PSU (switch at back) or at the wall socket. That will prevent the computer from randomly booting!

Hope that this helps!

It is not your router it is bios setting for wol.

See event logs and lastwake to see why it is waking up.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

yeah WOL is enabled in the network card driver settings. Disabled them. Since this only happens once every few months I will have to wait to find out if the problem is fixed.
