There is probably differences it you installed clean or upgraded as there are definately differences between 32bit and 64bit. If you want to know what is running on your system, download Process Explorer from Microsoft and install - It gives you more details on what is running than task manager and you can decide. I am running 4 Gigs RAM but I am running 64bit and it runs well, 32bit should run well on 2Gigs, but you can always add more memory later if needed

48% of 2gb when it's idle? Or u can look in taskmanager to see which items take more.

It's nothing to be overly worried about due to Windows 7's markedly different approach to efficient memory management & aggressive cache allocation.

Thanks to all. I downloaded process explorer and found it to be a lot less confusing than looking at processes in the config.sys section. It appears my antivirus, magicjack and Win 7 OS are using about 48% of 2gig of ram. I guess it is as good as it gets. I have an EMachine, which is all I really need, and it can only take 2gig of ram max. So this is it and Thanks once again.

"Just installed win 7 and have installed no other programs yet ram is at 48%."

Good deal & do try to be less misleading next time ;-)
