Only this one flash drive or others?

Seems it is running in 1.x mode. Any hubs? Any bios setting for usb 1.x only?

Sometimes there is a bios setting that limits the bios speed. Either the system has gone bad or the bios setting is wrong or possibly a driver is needed for the 2.0 hub inside the computer.

Did it ever work correctly? How old is it?

As jefro said some BIOSes have settings to disable USB 2.0 functionality. Therefore, you should check it.

One way to check is, go to Device Manager and expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers then see if you have an entry named USB Enhanced Host Controller. The word Enhanced means you have USB 2.0.

Another way is, go into BIOS and check there.

By the way, did you install the chipset drivers especially if Win 7 was installed later on this machine.

@suatcini

i have checked it out and 2 ports are usb 2.0...
i have installed all the drivers and they are up to date...
i've uninstalled all the junk...even formatted my system couple of days ago(clean install)...and guess what, it was fine for a couple of reboots.the next day at college things were the same...i mean it slowed down again.
