windows 7 show desktop icons not working

September 24, 2010 at 07:39:03
Specs: Windows 7
so, w7 shows the background but no icons & task bar.
also there is no welcome window [you know, the blue & green plants],
just a black screen and then just the background.

i tried to right click the background and turned on the "show desktop icons"
but it's not working.

what do i do?
thanks,
ido.

Just an idea:
Try logging off then shutting down instead of normal shutdown.
Reboot and see if it helps.

XpUser4Real - it's a new computer so i cant restore back to nothing.

Derek - even if it works, the problem appears again when the computer is on stand by [screen goes black] and when i touch the keyboard / mouse, same problem.
when screen saver is on and i touch the keyboard / mouse, same problem.

Then why not return it to where you got it and get them to change it out. That's what warranties are for. You probably have a lemon. I would insist on a new one. Sounds like a hardware problem.

I found the problem, but i dont understand.

i have a "samsung syncmaster" screen with both VGA and DVI cables with it.
when i pulled out the DVI cable, suddenly the desktop showed up and now the screen is workung on VGA only. when i plugged the DVI cable again, the icons and start bar disappeared again. why is that?

Why are you using both cables, you use one or the other, not both at the same time.
