Specs: Win7 Home, Intel i3/4GB RAM
Gateway NV7915U notebook. first year flawless operation. Second year random BSOD restarts.
1.checked for faults with normal utilities. Not corrected
2. system reinstall from DVD's made when Laptop was first started. Not corrected
3. first trip back to manufacturer under extended warranty. Not corrected BSOD on first start up
4. second trip back for repairs under extended warranty, replacement of processor heat sink,
notes on service statement says everything is OK, BSOD after ten minutes of operation.
i have installed a utility to read the mini dump files. Each and every time the system randomly restarts the entry in the Dump file shows "NTOSKRNL.exe 70740 or NTOSKRNL.exe
At this point I need any ideas or direction in which to persue, i don't think a third trip back for repair under the extended warranty is going to give me an answer....any ideas???

Back up your files and demand they replace it under your extended warranty with a new one. Apparently you have a lemon since they cannot (or are not investing enough time to) find the problem so as the third time returning, they should replace it with a NEW, not a refurbished equivalent model.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.

I would also run Windows 7's own memory diagnostic program to rule out faulty RAM chips as so many BSOD are caused by bad RAM. Type Memory in search box by Orb to bring up the program.

as often can happen, a memory chip may have come loose, you can remove and reset the chips by removing the small plate under the laptop, usually held in place by one or two screws.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
