Specs: Windows XP Pro SP3, Pentium 4 HT, 3.00 GHz-x64-1 Gb. DDR-400
Hello,

Would you recommended running Windows 7 Professional or Windows Vista Business on a Pentium 4 HT-3.0 GHz,
1 Gb. PC3200 ram,
380 Gb. HDD, and a
PNY Verto FX5200 256 Mb?

Both are the 32-bit versions.

Thanks

There is no point in upgrading to an older OS, you may as well go with the latest.
Windows 7 is a bit less resource hungry and will be better able to deal with the lack of systems ram.
At the very least treat yourself to another 1 GB of ram to make it up to 2 GB, 1 GB is really not enough.

for a single 1 Gb. Chip where I live it is $70-$120 because it considered legacy hardware here.

If you add another 1 GB RAM, your computer will work just fine with both Vista and Win 7. On a P4 3.0 GHz with HT, you can even play bluray movies with a compatible gfx card such as Radeon HD3850 or equivalent Nvidia card.

I have a similar machine, P4 Prescott 3.0 GHz, 4x512 MB PC3200 RAM, Sapphire Radeon HD3850, IDE HDD, Bluray-RW, etc. It is very good. It runs both Vista Home Premium and Win 7 Home Premium.

Vista with 2 service packs is better than Win 7 without. But Win 7 service pack will be out within a couple of months, if not weeks. Service Pack RC is already on the net.
