Well, I don't think your little problem is really solved but at least you now have a means to view your stuff.

Frankly I've no idea why you get the problem online. I'll think about it but don't hold your breath (quite a new one on me).

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

So lets get this clear, you look up a restaurant online?
You click on the menu?
And a new window opens (Notepad)?

I think perhaps you have an association issue, the notepad should probably be Adobe Acrobat?

Do you have acrobat installed? try installing it and see what happens

Does NotePad come up when you are doing other things on the computer?

thanks for your help. guess i didn't make myself clear. let me use a different example:
say i'm in my American Express Account and i want to look at at last months statement.
when i try to open that statement, the notepad rectangle appears and rather having
my statement info show, i see like a whole page of mixed up letters numbers and
symbols..does that make any sense

Instead of opening your account is it possible to Save it as a file on the system (right click maybe)?

If so, see if it still opens with NotePad when you double click the saved file.
In which case give use the file type (three letters after the dot) and we should be able to help you fix the problem.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Apparently, you are having the wrong file type being opened by NotePad when the file type is something else like .PDF (Acrobat/Acrobat Reader) or something that would need to be opened with something else like another browser window, Picture Viewer, etc.
This is what they are trying to tell you (above). Saving the file and reading the extension ( .PDF, .DOC, etc.) as in reply #4, will help identify if you have a 'File Association Error' and what type of association issue, and how to fix it.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Find someone who can do what I suggested in #4. There is every chance that we can then solve this issue.

Did you know that typing with the caps lock on is like shouting.....
You may be frustrated, but everyone is just trying to help you.
No one is being paid to do this so a little courtesy will go a long way.
If need be, get a friend to help you, show them the question and replies.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

i'm so very sorry you took my comment as being not appreciative, or sarcastic. It was my attempt at humor. Truly, i'm not a technical person at all. Want you all to know that your help is very much appreciated. So forgive me if you thoughtmy comment was insincere. Thank you all for your help.

No matter - that's the problem with words, easily misunderstood.

Maybe I can better explain my #4. Go to your account but instead of opening the statement, right click it and see if there is an option to "Save the file" instead. If so, go for that, and make a note of where it is going to put it. Find the file it saved, double click it and see if it opens normally or whether NotePad pops up again.

If you get that far, your answer will help us to solve the problem.

Thank you. I will try that. oh, by the way, i learned
something new. No one has ever told me that typing in
caps represents 'shouting'. gosh i type in caps a lot,
but will refrain from doing that. Again, thank you for
your help.
