windows 7 not recognizing an external hard dr

Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate, 4 GB
I had a new 500GB HD installed on Toshiba Tecra with Windows 7, and had the old HD put in as external USB device (so I can access all the data, System does not see it at all. where as the same external drive is working fine on bot Vista business Laptop as well as HP Desktop with XP. (so I can rule out hardware, cable or any other HW issue)
any suggesstions??

Have you looked for the drive in Disk Management?

might be formatted as fat and win7 might not be able to read it..you might try copying all the files, formatting the drive and reinstalling in win 7, via disk manager right click on computer/manage/disk manager
you will probably already see it there and may just need to give it a letter, probably need formatting though.
this issue has popped up quite a lot, you can search this site and see how other fixed it.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
