Windows 7 Long file names backup problems

August 30, 2011 at 08:21:36
Specs: Windows 7
In trying to back up the files on my network, where I am running Windows 7, 56 files produce the error message: "The file name(s) would be too long for the destination folder: You should shorten the file name and try again, or try a location that has a shorter path."

Changing the names of 56 folders is a lot of work. First I have to find them, and then shorten them. How can I simply " try a location that has a shorter path?"

Thanks

What media are you trying to back up to? The message seems to indicate that you are using too many layers of sub-folders too. That is what is meant by a shorter path.

Look at the link below. Read the section on Maximum Path Length Limitation.

Are you trying to backup to a CD? If so you can try relaxing the restrictions on the Joliet format.
