Specs: Windows 7
windows 7 laptop tries to connect user to server when off network:

User is able to login on network and profile loads. When user log off and network cable is removed, user is able to log back into the computer but the profile is not loaded. Just a black desktop with the recycle bin. The message displayed is the computer us unable to connect to the server.

The user should be able to login and the local profile should load.

This is on a windows 7 dell laptop. connecting to a server 2008r2 server.
The local and server side profile was deleted and recreated
the operating system was reinstalled even hard drive swapped.
This only happens with certain users and on multiple machines.
other users can logon to the same laptop with no issues.

By "Server" do you mean Domain? Are you using Roaming Profiles? What do the users accounts have in common? If on a Domain, are they in the same OU? What GPOs do you have in place?

Doing the best I can here... And remember, there's always more than one path to success. :)

Thanks for the response. Yes connected to a domain and GPO is set. I have no control over GPO other than updating it to the machine (gpoupdate /force). We are using roaming profiles and everyone is in the same OU.
