Solved Windows 7 laptop missing music files downloaded from iTunes

May 23, 2012 at 05:31:48
Specs: Windows 7
My music files are lost. I closed my laptop usually, and today when i wanted to listen to music all the music was gone. They are still somewhere on the laptop as it still uses all the storage space. I have tried the recovery, it didnt work, i tries chkdsk but it says i do not have the right to do this. I scanned for viruses, none. I tried downloading a rookit revealer, the download failed, i have no idea why. Anyone know what should i do????

I havent known itunes to replace erase folders or music by itself so whats happening on your end is quite different, I have two thoughts test them out
1) You said that the space taken by your music is still there, so if you right click the music folder properties does it still display a size relevant to your previous music collection? if so go to a dos prompt (cmd) and try browsing to that music folder and typing in (dir) . my thought here is that maybe the folder is hidden
2) If all else fails and they have been deleted somehow permenantly you can try a recovery software and see if it brings up any results at least youll have peace of mind then. ive used pandora recovery software its free and decent enough. http://www.pandorarecovery.com/down...
Good luck

What's about the search function in windows?
Try to search for e.g. *.mp3

Have you use customized search and selected the drive, you'd like to search, if there is more than one drive connected to your computer?

That sucks! I cant imagine the files have just disappeared.

Assuming you use itunes, if you go into your library does it show your music there? and then when you double click it says the music is missing?
How do you store and organize your music on your HD?
Have you checked your recycle bin?

Yes i use itunes, but it does not show amy music.
When i first went on itunes it was completely empty and suggested i should search for music off my laptop. I did because i though it was just some mess with the itunes after an update i hadn't been aware of or something but then it only gave me sample music. I keep all my music in the music folder, and its empty.
I checked my recycle bin, but it only has stuff that i have consciously out there.

I downloaded the recovery software and it recovered some of the music so thanks! But if there are any other ways to find it all i would appreciate it. The files are not hidden, though 104Mt sounds like a lot for a practically empty file...
