Specs: Windows Vista
I am trying to get my new comp setup, but having a huge problem. The problem is that I cant see my SATA HDD in the install or BIOS. I have the cables in tight and to SATA port 1. My DVD drive is SATA as well and can be seen.

HDD: WD6400AAKS (western digital)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit

If the drive is not detected in the BIOS, then it's not hooked up right.

Could it be that the sata is on an adapter card?

You could have a bad cable, try another one, or better, swap cables with the DVD drive and see what changes there are. Also try another power connector. Finally, try another SATA Jack on your motherboard (you might have a bad jack or location on your motherboard). IF everything works in every combination except the HD, then it is probably a bad one.

Check both SATA data cable and SATA power cable and make sure sata drive receives power. Also check in BIOS if SATA port is not set as NOT INSTALLED.

While you are in BIOS, set SATA to AHCI, if you want it, or leave it at IDE, which is most probably the default setting, before you install Windows 7.
