✔ Best Answer
Yes, you can create an image of the entire hard drive, which many people do, including myself.

You can use the utility built into Windows 7, or buy third-party software.
To use Windows own utility, go to Control Panel > Backup and Restore.

First of all, "Create a system repair disc"
When that's done, click "Create a system image".

You must have a second internal hard drive, or an external hard drive to create a system image. You cannot create the image on the same drive you are backing up (for reasons which should be obvious).

Actually Phil22 I think the OP wants to make a Windows 7 install disk from his present setup and that is not possible.

The best option here is to buy a new disk. (Hard to imagine how one loses an important disc though)!

This system image procedure described by Phill is the best option. Indeed with a lot of OEM computers, it is the only option.

Even with a Full Windows installation disk, a system image and recovery disk is the better option than doing a full system installation.

Stuart... the OP says "unfortunately my windows dvd lost", it seems to me that he wants to recreate his lost DVD from his system. Phil's option is the best one of course provided the OP just wants to make an image.

(Unhappily like so many of these posts we'll never know)!
