windows 7 doesn't recognize password

November 22, 2010 at 16:45:23
Specs: Windows 7
My boyfriend recently had a friend use his laptop for something he said was related to his college work. That night the friend logged off of the computer and they didn't touch it for a few days. When they finally did start it back up it accepted his password (which means that this isn't a password change problem) he ended up logging off of it so as to conserve the battery while they ordered pizza, but upon returning to re-start the laptop, it didn't recognize his password. He tried at least 10 times, first typing it at normal speed, then each key individually and it still said that his password is incorrect. We aren't sure if it could be a 3rd party virus or if it's a problem with the laptop itself, we would take it to get looked at but his mom moved the papers that came with the laptop and they need proof of purchase. We tried to reset the password but it asks us to insert a disk into drive E. We don't know of or possess such a disk.
Can someone tell me what might be wrong? He really needs it in order to check his online bank account and he is having troubles logging in.
Thank you.
