If this happens once then it is probably Windows Update. If it happens often it is not.
Report detailed system information and more information on the problem.
I see you have Pentium 4 and Windows 7, do you have Windows 7 drivers for your hardware?

I am using Window 7 on this desktop for over two years and had no problem. This switching off of desktop when in sleep mode for long is recent development.
I have been keeping my desktop on all the time and not switching off. For the last one week, the Desktop switches off in the night every day (when not being used and in sleep mode).

You haven't provided enough info about your system. Please list the complete specs, including the power supply specs, and the system & CPU temps. Why are you leaving it on 24/7 anyway?

Many people leave their PC's on 24/7, it is usually their preference and as long as they reboot at least once a day, there is no harm in doing so.

i would not recommend sleep mode on a desktop...that is mainly for use on a laptop to preserve power.
