Windows 7 Desktop not working

Hewlett-packard Dv6-1359wm
June 20, 2010 at 22:00:05
Specs: Windows 7, Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.20GHz; 4GB RAM
My computer runs fine, except for the desktop itself. The desktop icons don't work, the desktop background doesn't show up, and I cant click or right click anything on the desktop. The start menu works and I can open anything through it that doesn't open off the desktop. Its not causing any severe problems yet, but I don't plan on waiting around until it does.

First I would try would be a system restore, simply pick a date before the problem first showed up. Then just to be sure, update your antivirus program and run it, then run Malwarebytes (free version) 'full scan'.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.

try creating a second account, if that works fine, you copy your files from the original account and then delete the original.
if it fails,
you could after following Fingers advice, run a repair, drop in the win7 repair disk or installation disk, and run repair, that should fix any damaged files.
if all else fails make a backup of all your files and then do a factory restore, or reinstall windows7.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
