My entire desktop turns white not allowing me to access anything including the start button.

First, Did you try holding down the manual start button until it shuts off (probably 6 or more seconds) and restarting to see if that resets things?
Then more info:
Did this computer come with Windows 7? Was the 'upgrade' listed above from home premium? Vista? XP? Was this a clean install? How long have you had this computer? How long with it's present install? Have you been having ANY other problems lately? Have you recently installed any hardware? Software? Drivers? Have there been any windows updates (manual or automatic)? When it blanked, was the computer being used, sitting idle, on standby, on screen saver, etc? Was anyone else using it at the time or recently? Was anything recently downloaded? Were you recently playing any online games? Is your Antivirus software up to date? What about brand and system spec's.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.
