windows 7 dde problem

Specs: Windows 7
When I open and close spreadsheets after doing this a few times, the spreadsheets then stop opening. I have to turn off my PC in order to get them to work again. However when I try to turn off my PC I first get the message DDE Server error. This is apparently stopping the opening of my spreadsheets.
Is there any way of getting around this DDE Server problem.

Your spreadsheet program (excel? Openoffice?) may not be closing properly, which can cause both of your symptoms. Try task manager to shut down the program/process and see if it then opens properly. If you plan to reopen a spreadsheet or open a different one, rather than X-ing it out to close it and the opening it up again, try File>Close this will close the spreadsheet but leave the program open and ready for you to more easily open a spreadsheet (faster too) when you are ready. When you are finished, then you can 'X' it out.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
