windows 7 ctrl-alt-del login in c++ runtime e

May 26, 2011 at 07:20:29
Specs: Windows XP
Windows 7 running Winamp and iTunes, both froze. The whirly circle cursor showed when hovered over either program.
Auto Windows Update had downloaded and installed at this point.

Pressing Windows key and any letter, did not respond.
I left the computer for 10 mins but it remained frozen.
Pressing the ON/OFF button for 4 seconds powered it off.
On rebooting it came to the login screen, "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to login".
Pressing the keys, responded with a dialogue with " ... C++ Runtime library ..... error"

The only option from there was OK, then a blank screen with cursor. That's it.

Attempting a "Safe Mode" loaded to /Windows/system32/Drivers/ClassPNP.sys, then stuck there before rebooting.

Any clues.

Thanks for the reply.
The .iso was downloaded then a burnt CD run.
While it looked for issues on the Win7 drive, none were found and the problem of not being able to login remains.

Haven't been able to login for several days. I almost hate Windows OS but that would be too strong a word.
