Specs: Windows 7, Xeon quad core 266mhz
increased ram from factory 4g to 16g. System booted real fast then crashed (blue screen) as soon as it booted into windows 7 ultimate. 3rd time running sys repair.
Do i need to change any settings in os using safe mode to accept increased ram?
Bios shows ram correctly etc...

i assume you are using 4x4gb, try with 2 sticks at a time, using each stick in each in slot, untill you proved that either 16gb is too much for your board, or that you have a bad stick or that you have a bad slot..you can also run the windows memory tester press f8 at windows startup and at the bottom of the screen you will see the memory test.
can you boot into safe mode?

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

Please check first the voltage requirements of the RAM modules. They must be the same. Use CPU-Z to obtain info about RAM modules. You can find it HERE. Download the correct version for your system (x64).

If voltages are the same, then you may have to slightly increase DRAM voltages in BIOS for this configuration to work correctly. The memory controller voltage or whatever name it is mentioned in BIOS is the one to be increased.

You should read the M/B manual or Dell manual and look the info up in Dell forums.
