Windows 7 can't save shared file on Windows 10 tablet

September 18, 2015 at 15:36:52
Specs: Win 7, Win 10
The file is not read-only when viewed on the network from the Win 7 desktop nor on the file itself on the Win 10 tablet.

Apparently a lot of folks have this issue, and I haven't found a nice solution. Homegroup sharing didn't work either.

Interestingly and frustratingly, I can save changes with no problems when the document is opened across the network from the old XP laptop we are retiring!

While you are waiting for advice I wonder if it would be worth thinking along the lines of security and/or permissions issues.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Definitely. It appears to be an ownership issue, but everything looks normal.

Another detail: when a shared document on the Win10 tablet is opened from the Win7 desktop, it opens without any dialog that says it's read-only. Not until you try and save changes do you find out that you can't save them into the same document.

I think this is more of a Windows 10 issue, but a moderator put it here.
