Windows 7 build 7601 is not genuine

Specs: Windows 7
A week ago, a "msg" appeared in bottom right hand corner, saying - "Windows 7,Build 7601,This copy of windows is not genuine". I rang the PC man who built this PC in May last year (2010) & he says it is genuine. This is interfering with my desktop background picture as I have to always re-personalise it, as the screen goes black, with only this msg and my desktop icons showing. It's so frustrating. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. Can anyone help me as I would like to get my PC back to the way it was without this - I had no problems for 16 months and now this. This is the first PC I have owned and it is so heartbreaking that this is happening.
Please help me someone, there must be an answer out there to resolve this.

Phone Microsoft, and tell them who you bought the computer from. It may just be a software glitch which they can fix. On the other hand, you may be the victim of software piracy in which case they will probably take action against the vendor.

You may wish, first, to contact the seller again, explaining what you are going to do, to allow them another chance to repair your problem. Microsoft are very hot on piracy.
